Hey Everybody! I've been gone for a bit, anything interesting happen here while I was away?! Ha! I'm so glad you finally got to meet my awesome husband! Isn't he the coolest? And by the way, don't let him fool you, he's been carrying me for over twenty years!!
Anyway, in honor of today's 4th of July holiday, I wanted to post something patriotic and moving! I looked at several clips of groups singing the national anthem, scenes from the stirring musical 1776, and nothing seemed to grasp what I wanted to express today.
Then, I found this tremendous clip from the HBO miniseries, John Adams. Have you seen it? It's really tremendous, and among other things, displays exactly how hard our forefathers fought, physically and politically, to ensure the rights we so casually enjoy today. John Adams was particularly passionate that EVERY man, no matter what status, should enjoy their God-given rights of freedom and liberty.
This is a clip very early in the series, where the men are just beginning to assemble the members of the Continental Congress that would compose and sign the Declaration of Independence. They asked Mr. Adams to give a speech that will inspire the crowd, and make the case for revolt. These are John Adams actual words. I DARE you not to get goose bumps when you hear the actor Paul Giamatti speak them now....

I watched it last year. I saw the program had started again yesterday, but didn't get a chance to watch. It is an excellent program. I get a Twitter feed from exerpts from John Adams daily diary. It is fascinating what he wrote 200 years ago on the date. Today's feed: "7/4/1810: Independence day. John 7. At the fortress again. Saw the Mint. Theatre. Tartuffe. Paul et Virginie."
powerful and amazing
I would love to watch this, but I have no sound right now. Maybe I can remember to look for it and watch it after my son gets the sound working on my computer. Have a happy, safe and fun 4th. Hugs
Very moving, indeed. Thank you for posting this today.Happy Independence Day!
That sounds like a really interesting series - one I hadn't heard of. I'll keep an eye out to see whether it's reached the UK.

Hope you had a great 4th July! Husband and I decided to have an Independence Day of our own down here in Aus, but ours wasn't as patriotic as yours, and involved ditching our kids ... but it was still a celebration of Independence. Not the traditional 4 July kind, but independence none-the-less. Does that count? Blogged about it yesterday and today.
Great to see you back.

Wishing you a happy 4th of July doll and sweet hubby :) See you sometime~

Wow! Powerful. Powerful speech!
Cheers to freedom everywhere in the world!
Happy Independence Day to you :)
p.s. You've been gone for a long bit. I'd like my inspiration to be more regular!
Never seen that clip. It is excellent. John Adams had to be the most underrated of our country's builders.
I've been wanting to watch that mini-series forever, but I think that's finally pushed me into actually doing it!
I'm a Canadian living in North Carolina, and I'm totally obsessed with American Revolutionary history. Saw the John Adams miniseries, and also read the book it was based on. For my birthday a month ago, my husband and I took a trip up to Virginia and visited Jefferson's Monticello, and Madison's Montpelier in one weekend. Amazing. My husband is actually related to John Adams, which is how I got into reading about him.
I've been wanting to watch this. This post just cements that! Thanks for sharing this. We are truly blessed to live in this country.
